Hi everyone, been lurking around here for a little while and finally decided to join as I'll be embarking on turning my 72 Gran Torino into my next project car.
Little history of the car, I am the 2nd owner and have had it for 15 years. Its an original paint, and interior survivor and thats largely why I've just enjoyed it as is. But the paint is starting to fail, the vinyl top needs pulled and some rust repair done, I need to pull the engine and trans (351W/C6) and re-seal them, the front seat vinyl has cracked so my thought is since sooner than later it won't be a survivor anymore nows the time to build what I want. That mostly means ditching the C6 for a TKX, giving the 351 a little more pep and redoing the suspension so it can handle ok. The goal is to have the car appear to be something built in period. I've learned quite a bit from you guys and its taken it from a pipe dream to build this car to giving me the confidence to just go ahead and do it. I'm used to working on cars with a strong aftermarket support so this forum has been incredibly valuable already.

Its sorta the evolution of the Tremec TKO-600 5 speed. Smaller so it fits in the older cars better and still has the strength of a TKO 600

Welcome to the forum! I have upgraded you to a full member so you have full forum privileges. Post some pics of your 72, we'd love to see it.
For those that don't know about the Tremec TKX, it's basically a new and improved TKO. Check out the info here: |

These are the only photos that I had on my phone, sadly the paint is much worse in person than what it looks like in pictures. |

That looks great, beautiful car. The paint is nothing, but the front end parts there are worth more than the paint job, and super hard to get. Keep the brakes in top condition and maintain more space in front of you than any other vehicle you might drive. "You cannot afford to hit anything", that should be the motto for owning a 72 Gran Torino.
