I'm beginning to wonder if this sucker is welded on to the backing plate - any tips for a particuarly troublesome cylinder that won't budge? Two bolts removed, lines, emergency brake & bleed screw all off...used good amount of brake cleaner & WD-40. Hit it with rubber mallet all around & a few times on backside of backing plate. Afraid I might damage something if I get any more forceful...I'm replacing the wheel cylinders so not worried about damaging them...just the backing plate. 1972 Montego - thanks

Yep, it's gonna get some TLC for sure - pretty rusty. As soon as I get the bearings off, tomorrow. Tired pup is now going to enjoy an adult beverage & watch the rain

Since you are working on brakes do you mind checking your rear brake drums on your car? I am assuming being a 72 it has 10 x 2" shoes. Are they Ford (will be stamped with Ford) drums or aftermarket? Just trying to figure it some rear brake drum info on these cars. 1972 is a weird year for rear brakes, a lot of one off stuff.

A bit late to the party, but a lot of times on rusted backing plates...a decent wack or three with a dead blow hammer will loosen then up. Just don't forget to unbolt them. Like me in my youth lol.
