Trying to diagnose a problem with a 74 Ranchero: When you apply the brake pedal, it returns very slowly--it takes about two full seconds for it to come back up. Is this a bad master cylinder, a metering valve, or something as simple as air in the lines? Or is there a missing or broken return spring in the brake pedal linkage? The vacuum booster seems to be functioning fine.

I would be looking at the master cylinder, sounds like a piston sticking If the car has been setting long or the fluid is very dark that is most likely the problem. |

Thanks, Torinogts. As you suspect, until I bought it three months ago the car had been stored unused for over two years.
