I have a '73 Torino 2-door and I want to upgrade the wheels from my present 15"x7" to the slightly wider 15"x8" size. The car originally came with the low-end 14" minimum sized steel wheels which I still own. (I would prefer a set of Magnum 500 style wheels) My questions are regarding "backspacing" - how do I determine the correct dimensions to use for the '73 Torino? I don't want to buy the wrong wheels and cause problems with physical interference or suspension geometry. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, LP73 |

I have the standard offset American Racing Torque Thrust II's on mine in 15x8 and they fit well, I think the backspacing is 3 3/4".. You can verify on their website though.. I fit 265/50/15 on the front with them, and 275/60/15 on the back (back is very tight to the fender though, a 4 or 4.125" backspacing woudl have been better) Jim W

I bought a set of Wheel Vintiques Magnum 500 repros from Summit . Mine are 15X7 front ,15X8 rear. I run 275/60/15 tires on the rear and yes ,they are a little tight. A good set of air shocks cured that right up. 'Gave it a cool little rake too !

Do you think that 245-50R15's will work on 7" rims? I want a bit more rubber, I like the look of lots of tire. I was thinking I'd get 15x8 wheels and use 245/60 or 255/60/15 rubber. But maybe I could get away with 245/60 on the 7's..? I know that would be a loose sidewall, but I'm not slalom racing. Maybe 245/70 on the 7"...... |

15X8 with a 4.5" back spacing is fine! you can put 295/50r15 on those or 275/60r15 as well! i've had 15x10 welds with 275/60r15's on the rear with 5.5" backspacing with no problems!
