I went underhood (in a snow storm, so the front's a bit wet now Cry) and dug out a couple of ID numbers:

Distributor:
26
D7OE
1217
DA
7D5

Carb:
D7WE
EB
B 7D 21

I found a bit of info on-line to help decode them: I know that they are 1977 parts, and I think the "DA" in the distributor and "EB" on the carb are the revision levels. "7D5" and "7D21" are year/month/day of manufacture, I believe? It would fit wth the May build date of my car... those would be fresh parts!

What I'm wondering is the "O" in the distributor and the "W" in the carb. These are the application codes (i.e. whether it's in a truck, a T-bird, a Cougar, etc.). I was wondering why these are different for the two parts?

I love stuff like this, it's like looking through the pyramids and deciphering the hieroglyphs!

For some reason I can't fathom Some of the 77-79 Parts are

D7O*

and D7W*

O = Torino/mid sized chassis
W = Cougar/Tbird (which also overlaps onto the LTD II/Ranchero body).

Some parts just happened to overlap, depending on what body it was designed for *first*.
