I haven't made it to a chassis dyno yet, but it doesn't seem unreasonable to think that I'm knocking on the door to 400HP at the flywheel, and I'm doing what I can to free up as much "lost" HP that I can by weight reduction and minimizing drag in the motor. Currently, (judging by the exhaust note) the motor doesn't really smooth out till 2K, and it REALLY comes on close to 3K. And not that it's necessarily making any more power at that point, it'll spin to 6300-6400 without breaking a sweat. It's still going at that point, but I get out of it for prudence' sake.
My '72 will be (ultimately) in the 3700 pound range. I'm currently running a 3.55 gear in back w/ 28" tires (275/60-15 BFG Drag Radials). I rarely see anything that resembles freeway driving (65 mph), primarily in the 35-55 mph range, so I want to switch to a set of 4.33's to help get it out of the hole and up on the cam. Over the coming winter I'd like to drop the tranny to go through it (rollerize) and slip in a 2800, or so, torque converter.
My ultimate point/goal is this: low 13's or very high 12's. From those of you who are doing it.... am I on the right track, or all wet?

Thanks,

Kevin

To be honest, haven't been yet. Not with the rear wheels that are on it. They're showing their age and the uni-lug bolt slots are worn and oblonged along the bolt circle centerline. The only thing keeping the wheels centered in both axis' on the axles are the washers!! After the rim switch... THEN it'll be safe to make the trip. But a guy's gotta have a goal!

I think you'll get there with the 4.33's and the 2800..  With about 450 crank hp and 4400 lbs, I ran 13.05, so with way less weight and a better launch (I was 2.0's with the 4.33's and a stock stall)

I still have my 4.33's which will go in a carrier once I have the $$ to get one and the Daytona support, billet Yoke, and Det locker to match...  Those will be my 1/8 mile gears since I don't want to spin this lump over 6500 too often..

If your going to pull the tranny, you should invest some money in a Wide Ratio Gear Set which increases torque capacity by 43 percent. The kit has #5,#7,#8, and #9 needle bearing components. I have this tranny kit in my C6 with 4.11 gears and my car jumps out of the hole when I get good traction. I have the same size rear tires and my engine hits 6200 RPM at the finish line which is almost redline for my 472. http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts/category.asp?catID=26&a mp;catdesc=Automatic%20Transmission

Check out broaderperformance.com for this kit as well.  (to be honest, a decent trans guy can put it together for a great price from off the shelf Ford parts out of an 4R100 as well.. )
