GM had A B C D E F X bodies.... (more now)

Chrysler, same deal.

Ford.. Panthers, Foxes, etc.

What was the internal code in the 70s for our car?

Growing up and working as a mechanic in the 70's,  I never heard references to Ford chasis names.

Just Mid-size, Full-Size, etc....
Great question though.....

I called my chassis quite a few choice names in the past - most not printable. Right now, they are called 3GO (3 Garage Ornaments)

Joe that's funny dude.
Well to sorta answer Paul they had body codes not chassis names and you know the fastback Gran Torino as 63R
I think.the chassis names started in the 80's with Ford and probably as they were unibody platforms ,not sure but never heard mention of Ford 70's bodies being refered to by body code like GM and Chrysler people refer to a B Body MOPAR as being,Coronet's,Charger's,SuperBee's,RoadRunner's, SuperBird,Daytona,Satalite, GTX,etc.

As far back as I can remember, they have always been referred to as the Intermediate platform, or the Ford Intermediates.

I did a google search  for "Ford intermediate platform", and it pulled back a ton of related hits.

I like the term intermediate. To me it means a medium sized car. Not a 20-foot long land yacht like a Cadillac, Lincoln, or Imperial. Not a compact which may be convenient to park but is cramped, narrow, and provides inadequate leg, shoulder, head, and hip room. Just a regular sized car. Seats three across on a bench no problem. Has legroom. Has headroom. Has a decent sized trunk. But is more like 18 feet long. Weighs less than 4500-5000lbs. Still has a V8 and automatic and power steering and brakes. If it's cheap it has a straight six. Intermediates like Chevelles, Cutlasses, Torinos, Montegos, LeManses, Centurys, Coronets, and Satellites. Torino/Montego and Cutlass/LeMans being my favorites of them all.

I'll bite, Paul...what were the SN95/98 cars?

And to GTS...yes, it was in good shape when I created my account, but it's grown into a POS.  It's been sitting outside for eight years, but I'll never give up on it, as it's my first car...had it since '85.  As for lurking, well...we're quite an educated bunch, so by the time I read a post, it's been covered six ways to Tuesday by others.

SN95 is 94-98 Mustang, SN98 is 99-04 Mustang, if I remember right

MN12 is the 89-97 Thunderbird/Cougar, too, but not sure if Mark 8 is that or something else.

Ironically, Car and Driver in '73 said the new Torino was basically a Full Size car.
