Hey guys,
Several years ago I bought a 460 and transmission out of a '77 Lincoln. Getting close to being the time to get these ready for use in the 2M8O but I'm not sure what this tranny is..... Any help in identifying and performance modifications (400-450hp 460 w/2.75 locking rearend) greatly appreciated! Happy Thanksgiving to all and thanks for the help... JOE

Looks like a C6 with the Lincoln style tailshaft.

I thought the C6 had a bolt-on "bellhousing"? So how will this thing work in a '76 Torino? Am I in for more work than necessary? Can the tail piece be changed or will I need a new driveshaft? Decisions, decisions, decisions....
Thanks!

Not to my knowledge.. They are cast one piece.
I've used the longer tailshaft lincoln setup in the past. You'll need to make a mount. I did by cutting the arms off the two lincoln mounts and welding a 'regular' mount to it. Kinda hacky but it worked for years in my F100. Someone else can comment on driveshaft. I'll assume 'yes'. As for tricks.. I've never done any, always bought 'built' units. I have a 100% stock C6 from an 86 E350 in one of my Cougars, and IMO it's fine as is. |

BTW, what the heck is that little arm extending beyond the tail of the transmission for? Can I lose it??

It's a weight. Meant to absorb vibrations from the drivetrain. Most don't use it, but it does cut down a bit on engine vibrations.
