How much compresion will my 429 DOVE -A have with DOVE-C ported heads that have 2.24 intakes / 1.72 exhaust valves running a 285 duration lunati cam on 103 octane fuel ? the bottom end has new rings , bearings,ARP bolts and a new in box melling m-84 high performance oil pump from 1977. I dont plan on using this as a daily driver, aviation fuel only. has a Victor 460 intake and not sure about a dominator 850 or 950 or fuel injection yet. But it will have a hillbrn type scoop so I dont have to worry about the hood clearance.   So will have good compresion for this ?I am working my way up . I almost quit my project a couple years ago but couldn't let go !  No I am not using the stock valve covers or water pump or distributor , ect.  I will be using a 2800 stall converter C-6, scorpion roller rockers, elect water pump, msd ignition system.   And this is a engine enamel not a joke. I dont care if it looks like a mopar or not, the only mopar I plann on seeing in this car will hopefully be in the rear veiw mirror.    OH ,, the 1970 429 is going in my 1973 fastback.

Are those valve covers in good condition? I would love to take those off your hands if you don't want them!

stock bore and pistons. I geusse they were TRW flatt tops with the valve relief.  The bore was so clean I stayed with it. I did use a ridge reamer but was carefull to leave enough of the carbon so you could see it but cant feel it, I didn't want to take out too much ! After that I lightly honed them with a 30 degree cross hatch patern. When I bought this engine it was still running in a 75 truck with a 2barrel carb on it. I was told it came out of wrecked mustang.

The valve covers are dinged up stock ones. Hi Shane !The engine wont be finished till spring- I lost heat in my Garage and dont want to torque any thing down unless the temp here warms up. But I am getting there. I still plann on using the same color scheme as the model . The valve covers will be up for grabs when I buy these ones !!

Thank you Mark, I was told by a local chevy guy I would have too much compresion and that the engine wouldn't handle it.  So he was wrong !I think I will end up with a holley dominator 850cfm to feed it. I hope to get 450 HP when I finish it.

With that compression you can use 93 octane fuel. AV gas won't be needed. Keep in mind that the hagher the octane the slower the flame front travels in the combustion chamber.

I didn't know that.  I just assumed I would be better off with higher octane. This is my first engine build, outside of several dirt bikes and snow machines. I have done well with the 2 strokes and have machining experience which helps me understand tolerance - clearance- and torque. I have been working on this car for about 6 years now.

+1, what he said porting the exhaust and intake will help add HP
then Port match the intake which you do with the intake gasket on both the intake of the head and
intake.

For some reason my pics are comming out all out of scale.  The opening is 2.12 high X 1.61 wide. The bore below the the valve seat is 1.52. I ported these last year and did the seats with a  black and decker vibro centric grinder.

How much power  would my engine have if I went with a 268 duration cam instead of a 280. I'm just wondering if I should use these valve springs that only have a .440 - .500 lift ? And if I did would I be able to use my victor intake ?

That intake is for the track, not the street.

I plann on trailering it down to the track and hoping to get a decent time from it.  ! 13.5 would be fun, , no big trophy in the forecast, just fun. But I am concerned about the valve springs. They came with the valves ?/? I was told they are street Hemi valves from mopar performance. Oh well. I wont use them and I'll stay with my original plann on the complete Lunati 280 kit.  Thank you Mark.

I have some stock 429 valve covers I replaced with chrome ones. They're dirty but you're welcome to them.
