he guys got a couple of questions, a friend of my at work can score me a 6v-71 roots blower for very cheap , and i was thinking on use it on the sw i mean it would look very cool but i don`t no if the 5.0 block from the 86 t-bird that i have can handle the power , if it does`nt what kind of factory block would you recommend? i would have to make a new intake manifold or modify one but is not the problem .let me no what you guys think on this one and if you have any sugestions on with parts i should use for the engine , just say it please .

Not much of a supercharger specialist, but I think you strenghtened the bottom end with HD parts and kept the boost reasonable it could work.

I've been told around the 400HP mark and you could split the block (stock production block).
Installing a girdle or using an aftermarket or motorsport block with stronger webs etc. will alow much more. As stated above, go easy on the boost level and make damn sure there is no detonation. Detonation on a supercharged or turbocharged engine will kill it in very short time. Using a boost timing retard box or stand-a-lone ignition system will help tune it right. Also expect to greatly increase the cooling system to handle the huge heat loads generated by a boosted engine. An oil cooler will be a must aslo. Keeping the engine cool will also help to stay away from detonation. We ran a HUGE intercooler and oil cooler on the Rally car. That was turbo'd 2.3 Lima that ran around the 325HP mark in low boost race trim @15psi boost but we could dial it up to almost 30psi for those gota get out-a-here quick stages. You could litterally see the temp gauge, exhaust temp gauge & oil temp gauge climb very quickly when really on it but man was it FUN!!!!!!!

500 is the limit for the block, I wouldn't go higher.
If you have a limited budget, I would just replace the bearings and stay soft on the boost, unless you floor it ALL the time, you will be just fine

Stock blocks with work handle ALOT more than 500hp.
The question you should be asking is... is it worth it to put a 6-71 blower on a 5.0? Going to take ALOT of work. NOT just a bolt on and go item. Even if the 6-71 is a good deal it is going to cost alot more in the long run. There are alot more complete kits available for decent prices that will get you what you want! |

I agree 100% with Max and the photo above. You can make 700+ on a stock block but the question is how long until it fails. I did alot of research on this when I built my stroker and wish I would have just done a 351W instead. There is no telling how long its gonna last once you exceed the 450-500hp range especially with BOOST. On a NA street combo however you can get alot more time out of a motor. Also the 700+ numbers are usually with a turbo as they are not instant power and are much softer on your bottom end. If you keep your boost at a 6-7psi range you should be fine. Now the question is wht has been done to the 86 motor? Those were by far the WORST 5.0L that were made due to the heads thermactor bumps and Hyper pistons although that was in the Mustang and I am not sure the T-bird got the same motor but it wouldn't suprise me. If its all completely bone stock I would not bother with a 6/71 on it as its just gonna be choked and be a nightmare to tune for you let alone all the custom parts you are gonna need to fabricate.

the block from the t-bird had 76000 miles on it and was running strong when i took it out of the car but i only want to use the block, i have already some stuff laying around, i have a set of patriot heads and a full msd ignition system .
but maybe is it better to use maybe a 351w or maybe 429/460 ,i just don`t want to spend money for nothing but the deal on the blower is one of a life time he want 750 euro for a brand new v671 gm blower , the thing is even still in the box. how strong are the 460 blocks?
