Has anyone converted to the Pertronix Ignitor Electronic Ignition?  If so what are the advantages and/or disavantages?

I did years ago on a 302. Easy install. Make sure you follow the hookup installations. Advantages? No more points. That's enough. Disadvantages? Cost I guess.

I did it on mine and it lasted for about 2 months, then it crapped out.  I said screw this and upgraded to a Duraspark 2 system.  If you ever want to hook up a msd, jacobs, etc. you will already have a magnetic trigger distributor.

Just my 2 cents,
Chris

Don't waste your time with a Pertronix. Mine lasted a week before it crapped out.

You sure you guys had it hooked up properly? I'm almost postiive it doesn't get full 12 volts, but the 5v or so with the ballast resistor.

I had it hooked up to the way it said in the instructions, mine came with the ballast resistor.  Save your money, get a Duraspark 2 system.  If you do, get a Ford factory box if you can find one, they seem to hold up better.  Don't hook the ignition box to full 12v, I learned this the hard way, make sure you have a resistance wire or ballast resistor.  The wire usually has 9v at the end.
I found this online a while back. I don't remember where, but if this belongs to any one, thanks.  It is extremely easy to hook up and looks great.  You can get all you need at the junkyard or from the auto parts store.

I tried to talk a guy into swapping his '73 mustang, he said "you can't fix electronic ignition on the side of the road." I asked him what's to fix, he didn't say anything else.  He also argued with me about setting the dwell on points.  I told him that they need to be adjusted and the points have elongated holes for adjusting, to which he disagreed.

For the money, I would definately do the Duraspark 2 again.  There is nothing to adjust and like I said before, you can trigger an aftermarket ignition if you eyer wanted.  The TFI coil is a great idea also, because it can be mounted any where and in and direction.

Just my $.02
Chris
