I am needing to do a small amount of rusted metal removal and patch work in the area between the rear window and trunk lid. To do this right I need to remove the trim piece(s) and try to move the vinyl out of the way so that I can work. Is there a piece of the trim (corner pieces?) that have a small bolt that goes thru the body ...presumably into the trunk area...that is fastened with a speed nut?...or am I thinking of something else. If there is a correct way to do it(trim removal), I am needing to know as it has been close to 30 years (high school auto shop class) since I can remember doing anything with a Vinyl roof. I am wanting to keep everything as much intact as possible. I spoke with the previous owner a couple of days ago and the original Vinyl roof was replaced some time in the late 90's, possibly 2000. I am wanting to keep the Vinyl roof intact up to the point where I am ready to send the car off to be painted, where then I will remove the Vinyl roof, fill in the Opera windows and prep the body....that part of the project is still a ways out. |

I guess none of the other members had an answer
anyway i would think he 74-76 would be similar to the 73 formal and when I had to remove the moldings I had to get inside the trunk and look up to find the nuts for the T bolts.there are some across the back and the sides.I think you also have to remove your interior trim that is around the opera glass to get to the nuts for the side. The 73 has a sail panel that looks like the headliner but has a stiff type cardboard material and have to remove that in cars with no opera window. The back window trim also holds the vinyl around the back glass and there is instruction in the Q&A thread on how to remove those

HEY, Thanks Jeff for responding...I was beginning to think that I didn't ask the right question OR that perhaps I am going to be doing something that has never been attempted on a Torino, ever. I am going to crawl inside the trunk and take a look around...seems like when I have had any time to do anything with the car the past few days it has been pouring rain....it's an outside car, for now.
I am going to remove just enough pieces to do the job that needs done. Will be starting a project post!

...As it turns out the trim piece removal is very simple. There is 6 ea. 11/32nds speed nuts that are accessed by laying in the trunk and removing with a socket and 6" extension. I have started a "Project Update" {look for "The Spirit of '76 Project"} post with more information and pictures of this process. |

that's what I was saying if you get in the trunk and look under the panel you will see the nuts.
Did you remove the side trim or not going that far?

I did not remove the corner or side pieces...not yet at least. It appears that the corner pieces are held in place by 2 screws each...still accessible by laying in the trunk and reaching back over the wheel well. |
