My '72 Gran Sport Torino has a 1973 460 with stock heads and cast iron manifolds. I know I can go with some long tubes but does anyone make shorty headers to bolt right in place of the factory cast iron ones?
Also, it has the cast iron intake and I'll be swapping that out. I'm thinking of the Edelbrock Air Gap intake and topping it off with a Barry Grant Speed Demon 750. Any thoughts?
Thanks guys.

Last time I looked there were no shorty headers for the 72 GTS with a 429/460
however these two companies have full length headers listed:
Unless you have the GT hood you'll need to check the height of the Victor JR/ Carb/ Air Cleaner for hood clearance. The Torker II is a great low profile manifold. If you plan to race your Torino the 750 is a little small, I'd look at a 850 cfm carb with vac sec for future HP improvements like Aluminum race heads.

How about the timing chain and gears? The stock crank gear has about 8 degrees of retard versus straight up on the older 460's. Check it out ! It would certainly compliment the intake -carb and headers that you want to use. Gary

You don't want a high rise (RPM/Victor) intake on an otherwise stock motor. The Performer 460 intake probably matches what you have right now the best (manifolds, etc). If you go with a cam and work the heads a little, the Performer PRM, or Air-Gap, or Stealth work nicely. The Victor is very much race oriented, (think real power only after 3500). The Torquer II will also work nice for you and won't be even close to the hood, (and you can't beat the deal) but could use a little more cam, maybe around 220 or 230 @ .050 and .530 lift... Ideal time for a cam swap is while the intake is off. That with headers should run quite well. (the 750 is a little small, but will work well under 6000 rpm)

Interesting that some think the 750 is too small because I've heard with the BG Speed Demon you don't want to go to big because they are more efficient than other carbs. I will definitely do some more research and possibly step up to the larger carb as you've suggested. I will be putting a cam and aluminum heads on the motor at some point so for awhile my combo will be a little mismatched with the stock heads and cam. Thanks again.

I ran an 850 Speed Demon on a 466 with a Performer RPM, 10:1 compression. CC 280 magnum cam, stock stall and steep gears in a heavy car. (mildly ported D3's with stock valves as well). The car was quite happy with that setup.
