I am working on a 1974 formal roof with a 460 engine, when i look at the engine i notice that the driver side of the engine, sits about a quarter of an inch lower than the passenger side of the engine. When i look underneath the car (below the door) at the transmission bellhousing, i notice that i can not see the bellhousing from the drivers side, but i can see it from the passenger side, which would mean that the exhaust pipe is about 1/4 inch to 3/8 inch lower on the drivers side of the car. The motor mounts look good and do not appear to be broken. Is there a reason that the engine sits in the engine bay like this?

Get it on level ground and place a torpedo level on the oil pan to see if it's level. If needed you can remove the lower side motor mount through bolt, then just loosen the higher side's bolt. Take a 12" piece of 2x6 wood, lay the 2x6 on top of a jack and jack the engine up by the way of the oil pan, just lift enough to level it. The loose side will(should) have come down and the low side should have come up and be level. Re-install motor mount through bolt and retighten both before releasing pressure on the jack. I had to do this after wrestling the 460 headers back into position after they were coated. I hope this helps. Todd

Yeah, It's a Hybrid...It burns gas and tires. No matter how good she looks, somebody, somewhere, is tired of her sh*t. Beauty is skin deep, ugliness goes clear to the bone. |
