I was wondering about heads, per-se. Mine are cast iron DOVEs with 2.25 intake and 1.75 exhaust, mildly ported and blended, with I think 75cc combustion chambers. Have no idea what the flow is as the guy that built them said it would've cost more money to get tested. In your opinion, are my heads better or worse performance-wise and why? I already know the weight is a factor.

Go to 460ford.com. They specialize in big blocks and many guys on there have opinions on these Procomp heads.

Out of the box they have their many flaws, however they can be worked to be pretty decent heads, expecially for the initial price. The only catch is that to get the work done you might have just bought a set of Kaase SCJ heads.

thanks for the input BoB,I don't know anything about the heads other then that they seemed like a good price as some of the  bare heads are around $800

Papadeath, there is nothing wrong with a set of ported DOVE heads as long as hardened valve seats where put into the exhaust side for the unleaded fuel.
I'm gonna use my C9VE heads and have the seats done then port them as I can probably save some money and not concerned about weight as it's just a street machine not a drag car

Gee, I don't know if they were hardened or not. What's the downside if they weren't?

the exhaust seat will deteriorate in time with the unleaded fuels my one friend says he don't worry about it cause it takes a long time to do but you better have the engine tuned and dialed in as if you get detonation that is when the unleaded fuels can hurt your exhaust seats from what i've heard

you don't have to do anything to the intake vale seats, only the exhaust because of the hot gases flowing out

i'm on the fence as what to do as some say yes get the exhaust seats done with hardened inserts and others say don't worry about it as it will take a really long time to do any damage

It will happen quicker if you're towing or racing. For a daily driver it's much less of a concern.

On 460ford.com there are also for sale new cast iron heads that are an improved version of the D0VE heads. I had Carl put them on my 521. Seemed like a great deal, and I was just fine with cast iron heads. He of course did some work on them, but I don't know how much or what he did.

If I actually had the engine in my car, I'd be able to tell you how I like them...

well the 429in he GTS will just be a play toy more or less so it's not as big of concern but my 351C might go in the wagon if I can keep it and would be slated for towing also so I might have the exhaust seats done in it.

the Research I have done on my C9VE heads says they will flow as good as a set of D0VE heads
with minimal work.i'm just sticking with my stock heads and not worry about D0VE or Aluminum heads for now.I'm going to port match the intake and port the heads to make them flow better and
put some good springs, retainers, keepers and probably a set of roller rockers with chromoly push rods and a good set of hydraulic lifters and as big of lift ca as I can go,somewhere in the .500+ range. It's already got 10.5:1 pistons from the factory but depending on the cylinder bore's whether or not i will replace the piston's.Might get some H beam connecting rods but that depends on the budget when I build the motor as they are about $500 for the set of 8

If I were you, Guest, I'd go ahead and spring for the H-beams now and not wish you had done so later. I wish I had, but hopefully just for the occasional 'tuner beating' and burnouts, I hope I'm ok.

Lem over at www.429-460.com can set you up with a pair of aluminum FRPP SCJ heads for about what you'd spend on those Pro-Crap heads, they'd certainly be the heads I'd get if I had the money to throw at some aluminum heads.

Depends on the build. Pro Comps when outfitted with the right hardware are fine for a street build IMO.

The Edelbrock's are more expensive, about $1900/pr assembled. But they are USA made, to me that is personnaly important, although I would not necessarily consider it a significant decision point for all people.

However, and the point of my post, is that Scott Johnston has made the D3 replacement heads in cast iron, which is what I had Cars-by-Carl put on my 521. Granted, I have not actually used the garage ornament yet to tell you how I like the heads, but I wll say cast iron heads have some advantages in their own right (I am not saying they are a better or worse choice than aluminum). And I think they are considerably cheaper, but could not say how much off hand.

"Guest" may wish to consider that option also...

Scott, Carl, and a few other vendors are selling Pro Comps assembled with 'good' hardware for ~$1200-$1300.

I did some more checking with Dennis Carrico, the guy that built my DOVEs, and found that from what he did they outflow SCJ and 429 wedge heads (if I'm remembering this correctly, probably not, as I saw it today or yesterday and I've already forgotten=don't do drugs). I'm cool with that.
