I have come to a plateau on the front suspension of the 73.

So I started on the rust in the floor pan, trunk pan and rear quarters.

Photos are attched:

So, considering the above, my thoughts were to be the poster child for POR-15.

For the floor pan:

1. Wire brush rust as well as is possible. (done)

2.  Use POR-15 Marine Clean to clean the surface.

3.  Use POR-15 metal ready to etch the surface.

4.  Coat with POR-15.

5.  Use their epoxy putty to fill holes from rust.

6.  Topcoat with the Chassis Coat Black.

And then the same for the rear quarters except use body filler and mesh to fill in the rust holes and don't use POR-15 on the outside, but rather primer and paint.

Oh, and it did not seem to me the I needed new quarters for the car, that those small holes were fixable.

Thoughts?

I'd say fixable for sure, but I prefer cut and weld if possible..  Aside from POR, every time I've ever covered up rust in any way, it always came back though in a couple years..

My 73 which has never been out of AZ had very bad rust in the rear floor pans because of a rear window leaking, bought POR-15 patch kit it did work quite well however i wasn't satisfied and wound up replacing the rear pans from a rustfree 78 T-bird. We cut them out with a plasma cutter and migged in the newer ones.  Gary

Here are some more pictures from last night. Got the steering column out (need to replace the coupling as part of the suspension rebuild).

Took some of the rust out of the floor pan with a wire brush cup and a drill:

Also, found alot of surface rust on components all around (from chunks of the window felt literally chipped off it was so dry):

Also, one of the seat bolts (driver forward outside) sheared off when removing the seat. Started drilling it out, have a hole through it and still no luck. Broke a drill bit even. More work on that to come...

1973...I'd get a pair of quarters from TABCO out of Ohio, and replace both of them.
You'd be surprised how bad the lips are probably rotted if you have holes like that.
I am doing a '72 GTS, so I know.
As far as the floor...badly totasted, get paul's panels.
LOL, they {or atleast a poriton of his floors} came from me!
I used a conbination of flap discs, spot snad blasting, standard abrasives britestrip products and abrasive grinding to clean my floor pan.  I had to patch the area under the ac box, which was pin hole rust.
I plan on going back over things but for the mean time, the floor received a por15 coating to seal it.
