If it is like the 77-79s 351 the ones sold in napa or ebay will not fit. They are 1/16 1/8 to large I found one in an after market kit for 65$ .I went with a mac one mounted on the ash tray. Only problem is memory loss. I forgot I had done that and when I started her this spring I was all upset when I had no oil pressure.Ha Ha on me

Did some searching as I need one also and found the real thing. The aftermarket ones are 0-80 or 0-100 PSI and I think for it to be accurate Motorcrafts is a 0-90psi sender. I ran the search for my Cougar but these are the same for others also with the sport dash.
$21.35 they have 5 left in stock after I just ordered mine. http://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/1977/mercury/cougar/body_electrical/oil_pressure_sender.html |

Thanks for that, can you also tell me what color wire I should be looking for as I can't seem to find a spare wire around the area where the sender is located. Whoever fitted the mechanical aftermarket guage might have cut the wire out??

White with a red stripe. Connects back near the power brake booster along with the tach and coil 12 volt power. Sender is located right behind the intake on the engine block top where the transmission bolts up.
