Hi All

Just a few questions if that's ok.

Having just bought my 1969 2 Door Hard Top Cobra 428 I'm trying to bring here back to life. She has sat around for about 3 years so not too bad.

She is difficult to shift into 2nd gear, I think this is a common problem on the 4 speed boxes in 1969 ? Can anyone recommend a fix, what parts and where I can get them please ?

Also I'm told a Holley 4150 carb 700 cfm 0-4778 wakes up the 428 - anyone got any advice re carb set up please ?

Finally any sources for heavy duty shocks all round.

I have a shipping agent in Florida so I can get parts shipped there to avoid suppliers havint to ship internationally.

Kind Regards

Alex

I don't know about the transmission problem, hopefully it's something easy to fix. But i did some research and the 428 cj came stock with a Holley 735cfm carb. So I can't imagine downgrading would help the engine performance wise. Maybe look for a 750?  I think the cj's came with a pretty good square bore intake, so you wouldn't have to switch that out.  But you could always get an aluminum one for weight reduction. Then for shocks look at Summit Racing, Hopefully someone else can recommend some.

Thank you, very helpful. I am a customer of Summit, will have a look at the shocks.

The carb is problematic, maybe I need to do a total rebuild on the existing one.

With Kind Regards

Certainly could be an internal problem with the trans but the first thing I'd check is the shifter and its' linkage for alignment, corrosion, binding, etc.

Thanks - I do like your location as a Scot I know what Nova Scotia means !!

I found this site, been in touch, may help someone else with similar problems. Will try the linkage re-build kit.

Enjoying the steep learning curve on this beastie !!

My last name is McCulloch which I THINK was shortened from MacCulloch (Scottish, I believe?). What better place for me than New Scotland?
