Looking for starter recommendations for my 521 install w/ C6 Auto Trans. I will have headers.

First thoughts that come to mind are:

1.  RobbMc
2.  mid-90's F-250 Motorcraft Starter (from RockAuto).
3.  Powermaster

I am most inclined to option #2. The Motorcraft ones are not cheap, but would likely be the best factory style replacement starter.

You need a mini high torque starter that can deal with the heat. Tilton is best but expensive. Powermaster is good. That's what I'm using now.

Powermaster "XS Torque" looks like what you are referring to.

I have a Powermaster started in my pickup, but of course it is just the stock style one, but it is very good. For all the problems I have had with the engine in that pickup, the starter is certainly one of the better parts. And I have had good luck with their alternators over the years.

I've used these guys.

With your options, I'd go with #2

Whichever one you use, Paul, do what I did and put a heat wrap on it. If nothing else it will prolong the life of it.  Mine attaches with Velcro and hasn't blown off yet, and the way I drive, that's saying something...

Just to close out this topic, I opted for the powermaster xs torque mini starter. Not installed yet of course but it is small and has significant adjustment capability, and I have always had good luck with powermaster products.
