I am currently on the hunt for a 1978 LTD II with the sport appearance package. My father had the 2 tone green sport but after he passed the car was handed down and then totaled. I now have 2 children of my own and would love to have this car back. I have been looking for quite sometime now and it seems these car are quite scarce. Either way     , has there ever been a break down in production numbers? If so, was it done by color combos? Thanks for the help. And if anyone knows of a sport for sale i would appreciate the heads up. Thanks again, Chip

..some color combo's for you. I saw a two tone green one in excellent cond awhile back on craigs but it's gone now. I want to put this style header panel on an Torino Elite, but no one can tell me if it will fit or not.

The best figures i can come up with(numbers from ford) is they made 9006 2 door ltd II's in 1978.3300 or so were the sport models. There was not a breakdown in colors according to Ford..Although there was an article in a hemmings blog that stated that there was only 219 made of a certain color(dont remember which color) and that figure supposedly came from Marti Autoworks. Not sure if we will ever know how many were built. But what it seems to me the green is very rare. I have only ever seen 2 and one of them is the picture on here....the other being my fathers.

Lovin the 2 tone style on those!
CLOSE to one of the style options I am thinking on the 72 using the 72 body lines though.

Thank you very much. I believe there is a place in automotive history for these cars so i though this would be the best place to start. I hope i can find one some day for memories sake.

One NEVER sees these cars around and (hardly ever see any 70s cars, either on the road or in shows). I had three 77-79 Thunderbirds before my LTD II and I like my Eltee better. Good luck on your search!!!

Interesting note s means striped code on door post will be 65b I believe all others are 65d. My martie report stated 880 s built. on the 78 there were 9900 built. What I never found out was if these s code cars could come with the sports appearance or sports touring packages. If you find a 65b code car you have a rear car but probably worth much.

I must be in a 70's mood today, as the green and browns are REALLY appealing to me. Years ago, I had a '77 Mustang II Mach 1 in that darker green with the black and white interior. When you really shine up that green, it is spectacular.

Marti's has the reports on both styles of the LTD II Sports... I was the first person to get a report on a sport when he did the report on my black sport with the red stripe.. and at that time he was doing the reports combining both versions.. then I talked him into splitting them up, so he redid my report... SORRY.. but my report went with the car when I sold it...so I can't give you figures..... but roughly 2900 of each versions.... you'll need to order the deluxe report to get the sport info....

Hello - I have the exact reproduction stripes for the LTD II sport package.  I have invested significant time recreating all the pieces exact to original specs (hood, top, sides, back etc.).  I have a 1978 and used my vehicle as a template.  These are for sale as a kit, red or the white version (Red orange yellow etc.).  call or text 614.329.eight076 stevebrown614@hotmail.com

in the last couple of ears, I have saw 3 different Rancheros within a 20 or so mile area of me with LTD II front ends. The actual LTD IIs, though, I haven't saw one in several years. The ONLY Sport model I ever saw was a red one 5 miles from me when I was still in high school. It looked real sharp. At the time, I had a '77 T-bird and my cousin a '78 Cougar XR-7, so it really caught my eye. Then, about 1992, it disappeared. Like I said, since then, I have never saw another in person, that I can recall. Since then, I have saw dozens of T-birds, Cougars, Torinos, Elites , and even several Montegos. Based on that, I'd say the LTD II Sports were built in low numbers.

My 1978 LTD II with Sport Appearance package is for sale in Columbus, OH - see craigslist

I am taking my bodywork guy to court over the deposit he never returned and never did any of the work.  I dont have the funds to restore this the way it deserves now.  I have the stripe kit available separately - art files created and tested but not output yet.
