I have a 1972 gran torino sport. I had the c4 xp rebuilt by a frie nd at his school. Now it wont shift after it warms up. I can go about a mile or two with it shifting great but then it shifts as if i removed the modeulator. I tried several modulators and adjusted them with no differance. I am afraid my friend may have messed up the trans but i am hoping for an easier fix. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A split valve body gasket or over torqued valve body can give these symptoms. Might be the easiest things to check.

Trans fluid over filled could cause that too.

Fully warm it up for a bout a half hour then while running in Park check the fluid level. As little as half a quart too much can really goof it up. Since it works cold I really think this may be your problem
