Looking for info and parts list required to install a 1973 FMX into a 1971 Torino with a 302. Original transmission is a C4.

Thanks

Atta Boy! Lose the C4!
Look at the 2 transmissions they have short and long tail versions if both the C4 and FMX are the same length then you should just need the matching FMX Torque Convertor  and drive shaft yoke

The two transmissions are the same length but there is a two inch difference in the mount location.

Asking seriously. Why would anyone go TO an FMX? Normally those are turned into door stops..

I wonder if the earlier Torinos came with an FMX? If so, the appropriate crossmember should do it.

FMX is a good transmission. Stock for stock it beats a C4 for strength and is way more efficient than a C6, hp wise.

It just doesn't have the aftermarket following of the C4/C6/AOD series.

The AOD is simply an FMX with overdrive added. Not a C4 with overdrive added, as many people believe.

Hmm. None of my AOD's have a cast iron case like an FMX.

From Wikipedia:

"The AOD (for automatic overdrive) is a four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. Introduced in 1980, it was Ford's first four-speed automatic overdrive transmission. The gearset design is based on the Ford "X" automatic transmissions used during the 1950s, 60s, and 70s. The AOD replaced many of Ford's older transmissions such as the C4, C5, and light duty applications of the FMX."

I didn't mean the case, I meant the planetary gearset and basic operation.

I have a bad C4 as well, but I'm getting mine rebuilt and adding an OD kit to the original transmission.

Couldn't the cross member be flipped drivers to pass sides for FMX from C4? Not sure on 71 though. I have a 74 FMX  cross member but again prob different on 71.
