The same as when you had it installed. I would start @ 14 BTDC and work up to 18 BTDC. The more advance your engine has the smoother it will feel.

keep an eye on the total advance, if you arbitrarily throw an extra 10* onto the initial that the factory didn't account for you can get into too much advance on the top end, or even in the mid-range

Dan's suggestion is a good one for finding what the engine likes for initial, but after you find that you should have the distributor 'recurved' to accommodate the new initial setting

Scotty J changed his website, he used to have posted a tutorial on how to curve it yourself, he also provides the service still listed on the page under Services  http://www.reincarnation-automotive.com/home

My 75 Sport still ran quite good after the emissions components were removed. It was a 351W and seemed to not mind having all the stuff disconnected. This is different from my 76 Elite with a 400 which seemed to run worse and be more temperamental without the emissions stuff operating.

I agree that having the distributor recurved is a recipe for success.

If looking for more power and efficiency (WHO ISN'T), recurving your distributor will definitely help. I used the instructions from http://www.reincarnation-automotive.com/Duraspark_distributor_recurve_instructions_index.html and it made a great deal of difference. Good luck. Todd

Check timing tomorrow and adjust idle.It took me 7yr. to find out I never hooked up the heat tube to the choke It use to take 5min. to idle down and about 10 to 15 cranks to start. Now 3 cranks and it starts and starts to idles down in seconds.
