those are 295's on my brown torino. Plenty of room! 15x8 rims. Could easily do a 305 or 315 (but I'd need new rims and go to 17's for tire variety)

jason.forte Thanks for the reply. Nice Torino you have with the tire and wheel set up! I am thinking of 275/60/15 on the rear and 225/70/15 on the front with Cragars. 15X8 with 4 1/4" backspacing on rear..................15X7 with 4" backspacing on front Just trying to get someone to let me know how much clearance there is between the wheel and the fender lip and the frame with this rear setup on a 73 torino. Close up photos would help. Thanks, Paul |

I Like the 275/60 in the back, but went with 245/60 in the front on a 8" rims all around. I like a bit more tread on the front, corners keep sneaking up on me.
Although i do have a little more fenderwell than some...

7T9_Tbird The 79 T Birds are a classy looking car. Thanks for the photos and the info. Your wheels really compliment your car and the tires are a real nice fit all around. Hoping to get a nice fit on my Torino. Paul |

Thank you! The rims are Cragar Soft 8's in 15x8 w/4" backspace. The centers are '90s Ford Ranger. Good luck with your rim quest!

Faker75GTS Nice wheel and tire combo! Who custom back set the Cragar wheels to 5" on the 15X10 and 4.5" on the 15X8? I am looking for a wheel/ tire combo for my 73 Torino and I like your set up. Thanks, Paul

sabatona' Very nice Gran Torino you have. I want the same wheels and tires on my 73 Gran Torino. I like the stance!! I know the rear 15X8 wheels with 4 1/2" back spacing and 275/60/15 tires will fit on the rear. My concern is will the 15X8 wheels with 4 1/2" backspacing and 245/60 15 tires have any clearance issues with the upper control arms in the front? I have 14X7 stock sport wheels with (4" back space) and bias ply G/60/14 tires on all around now. The tires are the max. width that I can fit on my rims. The tires do bulge out the sides more than normal. The issue I have is that the front side wall tires that bulge out like they do, come about 1/8" away from the upper control arms. That's very close but they do clear. I am wondering if I put the 15X8 rims with (1/2" more backspacing) that I have now on the front, if the side of the 245/60/15 tire will clear the upper control arm. The rim will be 1/2" closer in towards the upper control arm. I am assuming you have 15x8" rims with a 4 1/2" backspacing up front with the Magnum 500's. Was there any special adjustments that you had to make in order to fit your wheel/tire up front to clear the upper control arms, or any steering or rubbing issues? How much space do you have between the side of your front 245/60/15 tire and the upper control arm? Can you please E-mail your response to my e-mail at: donerightcarpentry@aol.com. If not I will look for your response here. Please forgive me, for this is the first time I am posting a message on this forum, so I am not quite familiar with the procedures of posting messages or where to read the response. Thank you very much for your time. Paul |

Raptor, Nice Gran Torino. What is the rim size and back spacing all around? Did the tires and rims fit without any issues? How much space do you have between the side wall of the front tires and the upper control arms? Thank You for your time Paul

I think a 225 is a little narrow for a 8" wide rim myself. And a 70 series will be really tall. GTS's only had about a 26.8" tire stock (G70-14 for most GTS), and those would be a lot taller. I run 245/60R-15s on my 15x8s which is a tad shorter than stock. Some guys run a 255/60R-15 on the same rim which are a tad taller than stock. Both will keep your speedometer reasonably accurate.

The tires came with it. Radar says the speedo is good. I would like to put 60 series all around eventually but didn't want to limit myself by getting 15×7 magnums. Buy once cry once.

Sorry John, I didn't realize you wanted to reuse your existing tires, I skimmed your post too quickly. You should be fine, but they will be on the narrow side and might be a bit tricky to mount. 225/70-15 BFG Radial T/A's are listed for 6.0" to 7.5" rims.

No worries. I can't see a half inch making too much of an issue. Backspace has me a little confused.
The manual says 1/2" which is measured from center line of the wheel to the mounting surface. I was looking at a set of Magnums with caps and all lugs for $849. 5×4-1/2 with 4.25"backspace.

I used Wheel Vintiques 15x8s all around with 4.5" backspacing. They fit fine, lots of room. I suspect the 4.25 back space would be fine too.

I used to run 225/70-15 on 15x8 Wheels on my '80s Crown Vics.
Aftermarket steel that I could run the hubcaps on. Gave the sidewalls a nice "square" look. I would get "Touring" tires with wide tread for the tire size. liked the look and how they worked.

no, but I might still have one or two in the garage as a spare.
Was going to do something similar with the Bird, but went a different direction.
