So I guess the factory painted the front edge of my doors to match the original interior. Anyone else have that? I had to take the panel back off anyway to install new door rubber, so I just sanded the brown and painted it satin black.

That section of exposed metal is normally body colour.  They just spray the whole door body colour at the factory, including the metal behind the door panel.

Actually that isn't true. Ford always painted that part of the door the color to closely match the dash. When the door is closed it would look like the dash flowed into the door panel. With the interior now black that should be painted black to match. Every one of my doors are painted like that and I have many doors.

Interesting, maybe it was plant dependent then, but I can tell you that not all cars were as you described above. I have seen lots where that section is body colour. My Oakville build car is red in that section of the door, not black to match the dash or white to match the door panels. It has been like that since new and still wears the factory paint there.  You can hardly see that paint when the door is closed anyway.

My guess with your's is the fact that the dash and door panels are different colors. The doors are painted to blend the dash to the door panel when they're the same color.

The different coloured dash and door panels may be part of the reason mine isn't colour matched but can't remember seeing any cars like you described with that portion of the door colour matched, even with a one colour interior. Obviously it did happen, I am not disputing that.  It look's like Brent's car is original as is with the brown paint.

Maybe it is plant dependent, interior option dependent or MY dependent.  I am not sure, but it is interesting nevertheless.

Here are a couple others below with all body colour paint on the doors, but with black interiors:
