smog, you haven't seen my thread???
steve, no i don't but i can take a few. i did it different for two reasons... 1) my theory to do the full body line cut was to save any warping across the front in front of the scoop (didn't really matter, BTW) 2) i didn't see the other threads because i did this just about the same time i joined on here, and didn't know that quite a few others had the same idea of adding the scoop, and had already done it |

i will look forward to seeing how yours looks and was done. did the center front half of your hood match up to the contours of the 74's header panel? the way you did yours, is making me wonder what it is that is so different between the 72 hood contours and the 73-76 hood contours. so far, based on what ive seen in the cut and weld pics, the back contour seams to be the same, and if the front center is the same shape, than i am confused as to what would be so different or hard to just modify a 72 hood to bolt straight onto the newer models.

the front center is not the same shape, and the 72 latch area in the hood is different somehow I never did figure that out
if you were to re-sect the front from the correct year car the rest of the 72 hood should fall into place?

with that info, i wonder what would be easier and make it look more factory and less noticeable, either re-secting the front like youve mentioned or doing it like the others have done.

I seem to remember that the hood latch configuration on the 72 hood is totally different from the 73 because 73 was the first year of the underdash hood release cable. The 72 hood also has a slightly different shape in the front and tapers differently from the hinge to the front...just enough to make it impossible to align with proper gaping.

it took me the last 5 days to go through and read every post from the first to the last on here, and as much as i wish i wouldve written my questions down on various stages through here, i just got to thinking, with all the chrome, stainless and polished aluminum that the front of your engine has, have you ever considered converting to a serpentine belt system with the bullet tipped looking pulleys? they would look fantastic on this!!

hey, while youre considering that front/rear disk swap...as you are gathering up the parts needed for it, grab a secon set of everything for me while youre at it. i plan on doing the same thing. right now i am doing what i can to gather up all the various different parts, tips and education from all of you guys that i can BEFORE i begin my actual tear down, so that i can get it done relatively quickly, but more importantly, learning from all of you guys' experience, both good and bad...

well saturday we went after big disc parts at that yard...out of the 10 or so lincolns there only one had rear discs but the rear end was already gone
so the hunt continues but on a positive note i did get the mastercylinder and correct proportioning valve, as well as a pair of front big caliper brackets so i got them cleaned up and painted: |
