I'm toying with the idea of putting a rear spoiler on my 72 GTS sportsroof. I've seen pics of a couple and thought it looked nice.
Any idea what spoiler fits best? I thought I read once that someone used a 69 Mustang spoiler. Any ideas?

The Cougar Eliminator Spoiler was one of best looking ones Ford made in my opinion.

OK, THAT WAS AWSOME. I honestly didn't expect that one...LOL...I figured, what, a 4' tall spoiler?
I have seen the cougar/mustang spoiler, it doesn't not look right out back on a torino, IMHO.
I have a pair of trunklind spoilers of a late 80's GLS tempo, due to them being narrower, I was going to measure, saw a section off each and fiberglass back together for a very simple, low profile spoiler, but go figure I can't bring myself to hack a bunch of holes on my rust free decklid.
I have sat and tried to space the thing, and as far as I am concerned, on a 72-76 turnk, you need to line the thing up roughly right about the trunk lock area, or slightly covering the top with a portion removed for key access.
Then again, I still am debating my chin spoiler.
 Just my 2 cents.

I should dig out my duster spoiler. I had to cover half the lock as you mentioned.

I always thought the Rear Spoilers on the Pontiac & Buick cars of that era would have looked good on the 72-76 Torino. The rear body styles are close in design and the spoiler doesn't cover the trunk emblem.
   This is the best rear "Spoil Her" to have.

Funny to see that mentioned, I actually had a friend in High School draw my car with the 1970 Judge rear wing because I liked it so much and the body lines were so similar.. Wish I still had that drawing but glad I didn't do it now.

Depending on the car's ride height and rake.
I loved the look of the old NASCAR Torinos. THOSE WERE AWESOME!!!

That front spoiler is actually a bumper filler panel off a 1974-1976 Ford Elite; I had one laying around, and was working on my '72 and happen to go "what if?" and set the things on jack stands, and the thing actually lines up like it was almost meant for it oddly enough. I sort of want to do a more simple Nascar style chin spoiler, but I actually saw a piece on a 71 Z28 that I think might work. Don't know yet though.
I got another one to use for a bottom panel, and still need to work on the fabrication of boxing it in. I also have the issue of trying to figure out where to mount up my set of driving lights. ------------- Andrew:GTS.ORG admin, '72 Q code 5 speed RestomodPondering: #99Problems |

On my 1980 Mustang I put on a chin spoiler.
In the same way you did saying... "WHAT IF?"
Turns out the thin black plastic "chin Spoiler" from you common everyday older style/year S-10 bolts DIRECTLY on with a fe fender nuts and holes drilled in the plastic bumper cover of the 1980 mustang.
IT LOOKED STOCK!!
I thought yours looked like the lower panel flipped upside down.
I LOVE IT!!! When I do mine I will be looking into this.
Possibly cut it half and add a small lip on the bottom, like the current NASCAR lower "SPLITTER". This should get me the ground clearance I may need.

Here's my rear spoiler that I had made. I found the rear end would move around over 125mph & this took care of that. Some people like it some don't. It's functional, that's all I care about. Sorry I don't have any good clear pics of it. It has the Ford oval script etched in the side slats.
