Hi all, me again! Ok, I think after this, I'll be ok for a few lol. Does anyone have a used RH 460 exhaust manifold laying around? Any tips would be appreciated, I myself cannot see any real difference with all the different right side manifolds available, and I'm trying not to spend set of headers kinda cash on just one manifold. The car needs a whole exhaust at any rate, and that manifold is either cracked or has a hole in it somewhere. So if something may fit my Lincoln, and I can get a flange to it, I'm in!
Thank you all so much! Much more pleasant than a lot of forums I've been a part of!

If you don't know for sure about the exhaust manifold having a crack or hole in it, ( and if you have '72-'86 heads) check the air pump fitting/tubing that attaches to the rear of both heads. The tubing rots/rusts after a period of time(yes, time for it to happen has long since passed). If you find that this is the culprit for the leak, you can replace the crossover tube or at least just the ends(after cutting and welding the tubes shut) or you can strategically drill a hole in the PS firewall so you can install/drive the necessary welch plug to stop the leak(after removing all remnants of the crossover tubing of course). The ends of the crossover tube are held in place with (IIRC) 1/2" headed bolts. Good luck and let us know what you find.

Ah! I had no idea that this car would have had that! I've done that to a few GM cars through the years! I'll look into it, and get back to ya! Thanks!!

Even if your particular model 429-460 from '72-'87 did not come with the thermactor pump you will still have the ports for it. You should be able to see the ports on the radiator side of the heads, they have welch plugs driven into the ports on that side to seal them, the firewall side either has the welch plugs(no air/thermactor pump) or the crossover tubing connecting both heads. This image shows the crossover tube and the plumbing to the pump.

So does that mean that if it doesn't have that system, it could have rotted plugs?

It could, yes. If there is no welch plug at the front of the head, the port may not have been drilled at the factory, thus there would be no rear port either. It sounds confusing, but I have found most earlier model 429/460 heads have no EGR/thermactor system so no ports, but I have seen just a few that did(may be a California only deal). Every '73 to '79 or so(casting D3VE-A2A) cylinder head had the ports. When dealing with Ford/Lincoln/Mercury I have found that you can NEVER say never and/or always when pertaining to their vehicles, systems or parts.

Glad to help if possible! Hope the leak is as simple as a welch plug/tube fitting and not a costly manifold, although there WILL be curse words when dealing with a rear welch plug. Maybe the tubing can be saved/fixed and just re-installed, a BUNCH easier than installing a plug. Good luck.

IF you have a bad welch plug at the rear, and if the holes for mounting the thermactor tube are threaded, you can make up a set of block-offs and bolt them to the rear so they cover the thermactor ports. Just use ultra-copper or another high heat sealer with the blockoff plates. Otherwise, a 429 manifold should fit as well. (Pre-catalytic converter)

yeah i've always hated that stupid rear crossover tube, only thing i've found it useful for is to hook the cherry picker to and pull the engine out with

These are getting rare, especially for the passenger side, if wanted/needed you may want to act fast: https://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-Ford-429-460-Exhaust-manifold-No-Reserve-1972-1974-1975-1976-1977-1973/391921963691?hash=item5b405e92ab:g:UYoAAOSwdjdaAjKA&vxp=mtr" rel="nofollow - https://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-Ford-429-460-Exhaust-manifold-No-Reserve-1972-1974-1975-1976-1977-1973/391921963691?hash=item5b405e92ab:g:UYoAAOSwdjdaAjKA&vxp=mtr

As much as I'd like to purchase that, I don't know yet what's wrong with what we have. Car is coming home tomorrow afternoon. I'll figure it out eventually. If I have to build a set of headers I will. This car will be saved!
