Subject: Hello, and please help with a VIN?

Hello. I am searching for my dad's (deceased) car. He purchased it new in 1973. I have what I believe to be the correct VIN, and would ask some of you take a look at it and let me know if the number looks valid. I plan to find my dad's car and have it restored to how it was when it was new.

1973 Ford Gran Torino.
Copper Metallic w/a tan-colored vinyl top.
VIN# 3A30H281201

The person that I spoke with...(The dealership where he bought it new in September of 1973 actually still had the VIN record after some searching!) stated that they were sure of all of the numbers except for the fourth digit being a zero due to the record being faded, but were fairly confident that it was correct.

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

3 - 1973 Model Year
A - Atlanta Assembly build location
30 - 2 door Brougham coupe
H - 351W or 351C V8 2V
281201 - sequence number, car number 181,201

Decoding of the provided VIN - definitely valid. Sounds like a very popular color combination from past Broughams I've seen. A Marti Report from Marti Auto Works might also help you. You're lucky that the original dealer still exists. Not many have that fortune.

Welcome to the site.

welcome! good luck Big smile sometimes that can be difficult but having them VIN is a good start, DMV may not help much but worth a try if you know who ended up with it after your dad had it maybe you can track down the owner see who they sold it to, and so on...

Welcome!

I remember when I joined the GTS.org site I registered both my Dad's original wagon's VIN and my tribute wagon's VIN. Could maybe an ADMIN search those files to see if someone has registered it here in the past??

I don't have any access to those pages, I am only admin on the forum.  If I am able to catch up with Scott sometime, I will discuss this with him.
