Ok took rails off seats to clean and paint. First I noticed I have lost one of the rods between the rails ( any ideas on replacement. Second I noticed they are the same doesn't matter left or right. Is this correct or did ford make a mistake on this car.

The rail with the release lever is positioned as so you would release it with your left hand which is the outboard seat rail for the drivers bucket and inboard seat rail for the pass seat. You should be able to fabricate the missing piece with heavy gauge mechanics wire.

Tighten it down until it snaps and then back it off a half turn!

Nope, no mistakes. The seat tracks are the same for both sides, and same as a bench seat. Bench just uses a longer connecting wire for the latches.

Up date I was going to say this steaming does not work, but after about a half hr slow process came back and the bad seat foam looks better than the other,so it seems to work. How long another question. Also any body ever straighten a seat frame. the drivers side is really twisted to the right.

Straightened mine, then said "Forget this, these suck" and put in 73 buckets.
Used 2x4s to make a big clamp-on handle I could twist it back into shape with.

That's what I started to do but it is folding in the center top.

If you have the later buckets with separate headrest, the upper off a split bench with the two little individual armrests, or the back off a flightbench with the big center armrest will work. just use your cover/upholstry.
