Is this a temperature sensor? Theres one inside the air cleaner assembly and then this one in front of the radiator. I never paid much attention to it before but when I was reinstalling the wiring harness for the lights I decided to find out for certain. It had a black coating on the disc (paint?) that was mostly worn off.

John,
You nailed it, it is an ambient temperature sensor for the A/C system. Basically when you place the HVAC control panel to turn on A/C, it passes the 12v signal to the A/C compressors clutch to engage it when ambient temps are above 50' F (IIRC), below that temp the sensor will not pass 12V on to the compressor clutch due to system freeze-up issues. When the sensor goes bad it usually ends up in the open position, so no 12V signal passes through it.

Yeah, It's a Hybrid...It burns gas and tires.

Thanks. Never had a clue what it did. Now after 36 years I know.
