Hello all. Recently made a trade with a guy and ended up with this, to my understanding is a 1970 1/2 Falcon. I can't find too much info on it and not many pictures. This car is in exceptional condition. Came from a one owner lady with 80XXX original miles. Put some new wheels on her and already looking a whole lot better.

Does anyone have any info on this?

Nice find!  It looks great.
What kind of information are you looking for?  Off the top of my head I can tell you that it was a mid-year introduction after the old style Falcon was dropped.  The 1970 1/2 Falcon was basically a super stripper Torino. It was priced even lower than a base Fairlane 500.  It was available as a 2-door and 4-door sedan, and a station wagon.  They also came with rubber floors as standard equipment, the only Ford Fairlane/Torino to do so.  The 2-door versions were also the only pillared 2-door Ford (midsized) offered that year.

Basically, most of what applies to a 1970 Torino, also applies to your car.

Thanks for the input! That's pretty much what I've read on them as well.

I know it's an "oddity", but not sure how collectible it would be. I was planning on going "unoriginal" with the car being a 4 sedan and all. Was gonna go satin black, bucket seats, maybe even a rear spoiler and hood scoop. Was going to try and make the sedan look a little meaner/mad maxier.

But with the rarity of the car and in very good original condition, would I be a fool to go the custom route?

While no doubt your Falcon is a rare car, that doesn't automatically make it collectible or valuable.  Keeping it original has it's advantages.  An original car is often easier to sell and once you modify it, it will never be original again.  With fewer and fewer original cars out there, it is nice to have someone preserve one. Original cars sometimes get more money than modified cars, however, really well modified cars can get more than original cars. There are a lot of variables at play.

That said, if you are keeping this car solely original as an "investment," I'd say this car likely will never be truly valuable.  Unless you found someone who specifically wants a 70 1/2 4-door Falcon, I doubt most people would pay much more for it than a comparable Torino.  At the end of the day, it's your car and do with it as you please.  If you want to modify it to make it yours, go ahead.  Or if you want to keep it original, than do that instead.

Not correct, my 73 base Torinos have rubber floors as well

I agree. I imagined it wasn't really a valuable car. I buy and trade a lot, one project to another. I'm going to make a daily driver out of it, and mad max it (to a small degree). If the time comes to trade or sell it, it'll be what it will be. I'll keep anything I change on it of course, seats/hood,etc.

Thanks for the input everyone. It does have a 302 engine. I'll be creating a WIP on it soon.

Smog I was taking about 1970 models. Obviously basemodels previously and past 1970 also had rubber floors. Off the top of my head, I believe 1974 was the first year all Torinos had carpet as standard.

Sounds like a plan. I will look forward to following the project. My only suggestion would be to keep the original parts. You may change your mind and want to go back, or qhe. you sell it you can include them.

Really enjoyed the link to the 1974 Aussie Horn Ford cars. Starting about 25 photos down, does any else wonder if this was the inspiration for the Starsky & Hutch stripe way back when?
