Hi

I have looked everywhere online and am even more confused now, lol...

I am building a pretty nice GT 68 fastback, bucket seats, ac car.. and am looking at door panels. The ones I have (not sure if original to the car) have the metal painted tops on the door panels both front and rear... Some had the vinyl from the door panel itself wrap up and over the "hidden" metal piece under the vinyl to the felt beltline???

From what I've seen there seems to be no rule to when they were used?? Some have it some don't - mostly not (most I've found have the vinyl wrapped over)... some gt's have it some don't, some 68's some 69's?? By the way it seems that when the vinyl wraps over the top- the door panel itself ALSO drops all the way to the bottom of door as opposed to stopping just below the lower chrome horizontal strip?? Can't find a pattern as to why or when, Yikes lol ...

I like the metal ones since I have them but want to be mostly correct to the vehicle too.

Does anyone know? Is there any rule when the metal ones are used as opposed to the vinyl?

Thanks allot for any advice Thumbs Up

I am pretty sure the 68/69 Torino GT door panels are identical.  The GT panel has vinyl all the way to the top and top edge of panel sort of hangs into the window opening.  The GT panel stops about 2" from the door bottom with a chrome strip along the bottom edge.  Bottom part of door is painted and exposed there.  The will be a "Grand Touring" badge/emblem in the upper center of the panel.  Back goes to window as well.
Below are pics of my '69 GT with original panels/interior:

Thanks for the reply :-) My car is also Gold, well in the paint shop now so it will be :-)

I am starting to get the picture that it is "GT's" that wrap over. I guess the ones I have seen with the metal were put on later or not actual GT's just have the badges or something.

One thing on the rears... I have the 2 metal curved parts that go "under" the vinyl and wrap over the front door panels BUT the rears I've never seen? Are they like the fronts with a special metal piece built-in? I would need to find those and have never seen them :-(

I wonder if I could fenagle the metal "outer rear" metal caps that I have to go "under" and look right?

Anyone if you can chime in I would appreciate it very much
