I made the fatal mistake of greasing my hinges so I have the infamous 'hood droop'. Anyone have a part # for new springs? OR Anyone know if GM springs from a Chevelle or something will work? (A bodie hinges are close in appearance to midsized Ford) OR Anyone have a set of Lincoln Mark V or Continental hinges? | I didn't realize Continental springs were important, or I would've pulled them from the multiple Mark IV's and V's I saw in the junkyard a few months ago. Do you know if Panther (Vic/Grand Marq) springs will work? I'm not sure when they changed to aluminum hoods on those, but I assume it was post '87 like Town Cars. Steel-hooded Town Cars had higher pressure lifts, so I assume steel-hooded Vics must've had higher tension springs. |

Same here. I used white lithium grease, which made it harder to clean and attracted every particle of foreign debris around. Nah I'm set, I have another set in the shed, I just didn't want to remove them, paint new ones, and re-align the hood. Solved. I dug around in the local junkyard and came across a 72 Continental.   Note the size difference (Torino OEM size is painted silver). They are fun (sarcasm) to install. 72 Continental springs
I wonder if truck springs would do it too?
I have a scar on my left palm from where I was caught in a 75 Ford F100 hood hinge in 1986.
I had them pushed down without the hood on it (DUMB KID).
Well I went to hop down out of the engine bay and put my hand on the hinge when all of a sudden... SPRING! and my hand was stuck in the hinge with the full force of the spring holding me prisoner! My buddy had to climb on the truck and push down on it with all his weight in order to free me from my bloody/painful hell!!! 5 stitches in the ER that day!!

Not sure on trucks. I have a 79 F100, I didn't think to look. I'll give an interchange of 73-78 Full Size Mark IV Mark V 73-76 Tbird I'm not sure if 68-72 is the same as far as full size. Your springs must be lubed up for these, as shutting the hood requires more force than normal.. However, Most of these hinges, once lubed, become LOOSE if anything. I'd love to find a repop source for these, or something off of a modern car at least, but everything new has gone to a 'wound-up clockspring' type hinge, a rod, or pistons.
