Where there any 72 GTS 429 CJ cars produced as a factory option ? I would like to convert mine to CJ specs at the time but unsure how to go about it .

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but "officially" there were no 429 CJ cars or SCJ cars in '72.  However, I had a '72 with a 429 SCJ that the prior owner insisted was original.  It was a true SCJ but it was impossible to verify if it was original to the car since 429 SCJ's were not officially offered.  There are lots of tales of people who've found 429 SCJ motors in '72 station wagons, torinos and other cars and the story I've always been told is that those were motors ford had left over from '71 and dropped into those cars.  Other stories I've heard is that the dealers were adding these motors to them but I find that hard to believe.

Maybe someone with more knowledge of the subject will chime in though.

I do know that I wish I'd never sold that 429 SCJ car!

There was no factory 429 SCJ or CJ for 1972, only the lo-po N code 429 rated at 205 hp (SAE net). There was however the P code 429 offered in the police cars which did have better specs than the N-code, but Ford never officially rated it.

However, the 1973 Police 460 was rated at 269 hp, which was much higher than the stock hp ratings of the 460's offered in T-birds etc. So I'd guess that the 1972 P-code 429 would have had a significantly higher HP rating than the N-code version.
