First of all, let me say that I ordered the Spectra Premium F4A fuel tank for my 75 Sport as a new replacement. I am very impressed with the quality. Thickness is good, overall quality is excellent. I have no complaints.

On a side note about the tank: My original tank had a tube going up to the filler tube, may 1/2" diameter? It just went inside the tank and terminated toward the top. Doesn't seem to have any purpose - does anyone know what it does?

Now to the real question:

When installing a fuel tank, what have people done? Anyone paint theirs? I was thinking about that, then figured that having the tank bonded electrically to the body might be good (like airplane fueling operations). Does anyone put any sound deadening pads around it? I saw that one time.

I did order new straps with it.

Anyway, your thoughts are appreciated.

On the last project I completed, the gas tank was already painted by the PO but I didn't take it out to put sound deadening pads in.

The 1/2" rubber line is the vent for the tank as you are fueling, if you plug it or not use it, while fueling it will spit fuel back at you.

Yeah, It's a Hybrid...It burns gas and tires.

So the new tank does not have that tube at all in it, will this be a problem?

If the new tank has a large opening (not the unleaded small orfice), it should be fine.

That 1/2 '' deal would be your vent. If plugged or capped, most likely cause minor issues when fueling, even thou you don't have an unleaded neck. As far as painting the tank, personally I would clearcoat it, but I don't know if it would stick better than paint on galvanized metal. I used etching primer & painted mine yrs ago, but peeled in spots after a few yrs. Just my .02.

Nothing with the filler hose either, I was reading the angle of the filler hose could be screwy.

1973 flip down license plate vs 1974 rear fascia fuel door

either and/or both the filler tube and entry angle into the tank can't be exactly the same

look at pics on a site like http://www.gastanks.com" rel="nofollow - http://www.gastanks.com/Torino/products/76/ or similar for clues

tanks F48-A and F4-A

I will give it a try next week when all my parts come in and I'll report my findings.
I think I may need to make an elbow at the tank, now would be the time to weld on that tank if I need too.
