I think I'm leaning more towards different seats for the Cougar. I like the factory buckets, but to me, they're not all that comfortable.

I happened to find seats I like:

These are actually BMW E30 seats. I found a pair at a local yard, and be had for little money.
They're black, sitting in a 90? 318i. They'd need to be reupholstered.

The way I look at it, even if I were to keep the split bench seat, it would need to be redone anyway. For a little extra money, I get buckets out of the deal.

I was looking into something different pattern wise.

PLAID!

Something like that. Plaid center, with maroon/burgundy edge.

So let's have it. Opinions? Thoughts? Suggestions?

Personally, I think you've got it nailed spot-on. The seat design looks
great and I love the 70s style plaid pattern! Thumbs Up

I like those seats. Early Fox body cars had plaid and striped seat options. Again, I am a proponent of better seats in our cars, so I'm going with a nice set of Tiger-Stripe 4th gen Prelude seats in Cheap Trick. Far better than stock and far easier on the old wallet than a set of top-shelf new seats.

Look at the Procar seats.  Plenty of choices and you can have them reupholstered to your taste.

I don't think Pro-Cars can be had for ~ $100...

Okay, so they aren't the cheapest alternative.  They are still nice seats that are very comfortable.

The procars are nice seats, just a bit more than I'm looking to spend.

Thank God you're not considering Explorer seats. I've heard enough of that conversation before.

Good choice on a seat with the retro seventies disco pattern. Cool.

What about a set of late 80's-early 90's Mustang GT seats with the power bolster and slide out thigh support?

I'm definitely in for the plaid! And while I like the style of the E30 BMW seats,I'd be a little concerned about the size. I once owned an E30 and remember it to be a very small car compared to our cars. I just wonder if the E30 seats would look a little 'lost' in a 70s Ford intermediate....

I hate the pull out bolster for some reason. Even the Mark VII seats. While very comfortable, I just don't like how they look.

A while back I measured the width of the seat compared to one of ours, and it wasn't too bad. I could be wrong, and I will check again to be sure. I think they were an inch or two narrower. Not too bad I guess.

That amount of difference could be made up by a wider console. I'm using a modified Prelude console and a modified Cherokee console in mine. Wider and way more user friendly.

I like that plaid look.

I thought the Grand Prix buckets I had were going to be perfect.
Turned out they were too tall.
Andy and I set them in the car and my head was touching the roof.
They would have taken alot of mods to make work.
Andy had a set of T-Bird buckets in his and liked them.
I picked up a set of TBirdSC buckets that are going in.
Power Bolsters and Lumbar

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions for standalone consoles?

I have a 4th gen Honda Prelude console for one and a last gen Jeep XJ for the other. Minor mods to make them fit, but oh man are they better.

Explorer seats don't sound too paint and body "pro". Lol.

I'm going to measure height, etc. on the BMW seats in the A.M. Hopefully everything works.
I'm pretty set on these seats, and don't feel like starting over again. I take way too long to make decisions. DOH!

Running mark 7 seats in my GTS. Bolstering is good.
My preference to be honest, fox body lower, mark 7 upper.
Adaption of fox body to original Torino bucket seat frames is .easy to do. I've detailed it on my build thread somewhere lol.
Nice find.

Boom:

I think these will work nicely. Can't beat 100 bucks either. The passenger seat covers are still good. Between that and the seat belt clickers, I think I can make my money back on the seats.

Anyone get seats done recently? Just looking for a rough estimate of what getting the front and back seats done will run me.

Now just to hunt down a console. These seats are right around an inch narrower than factory buckets, and less than an inch lower to the floor. I think I did good! Can't wait to get these covered and in the car!

Update:

Have seat brackets/mounts cut/made. Used 1.5" square tubing. Wish I thought of that before wasting $50+ on flat stock. Meh. I've wasted money on worse things. I'll post up better pictures in day light.

A whole lot of trial and error though. This is my first project like this. Once the passenger side is completely done, the drives side should be done in no time considering its a copy of the passenger side.

Under seat and brackets/mounts:

Seat bolted and secured (rear bracket needs to be altered a bit still. Not bolted down):

So, thoughts/questions/comments/criticism/suggestions?

You're doing a fine job, first project or not. Are you re upholstering all of the seats or just the front ones?
