Had the Polycast wheels widened last week.  Fronts were widened 1" to 7".  Rears were widened 2" to 8".  I didn't realize he'd be adding the extra width to the center of the rim.  I thought he'd be adding it closer to the rear edge.  Therefore, the rears don't fit over the brake drum.  And if they did, they'd probably rub (but barely).  So, I ordered some 1" hub-centric spacers.  He also broke down 2 sets of wheels/tires for me, re-installing the BFG 275-60-15 tires on the the rears.  All for a grand total of $120 ($30 per wheel) for the widening.  He didn't charge me for any of the dismounting / remounting of tires.  Thought that was pretty cool of him.

Haven't had them balanced yet.  Crossing my fingers on that, although the guy has a good rep, here in the North GA area.

Sidenote: Has anyone every tried those tire paint pens to make the white lettering Nascar yellow?

they are good for a car show weekend.
but do not last long.
You just touch it up when you wash, wax the car.

Look up the Good Year Eagle Nascar tires, the made some a few years ago not sure they are available NEW but may be able to find a few NOS.

My "new" 79 Cougar is now at home, with her cousin.  I'll be swapping the bucket seat interior out of the Cougar, into the T-bird, and visa versa.  Then, I plan to sell the Cougar.  You can tell they're cousins, they both have a serious overbite.

Jeff, I know this sounds like a dumb idea, but after seeing the last picture, I thought of a cool roof treatment on the 'Bird. Since you see the stainless from a side profile on the roof portion of the T Tops, how cool would it be to remove the vinyl on the rear portion of the roof after the "band" and install brushed stainless to match the front? Just an idea.

I wonder if a Montego grill could be put in on the Cougar???

I'll definitely be losing the vinyl top, so that's something to consider.

I've got several 72 Montego grilles, so I can certainly see if one will fit the Cougar.  The 73-76 Montego grilles are shorter, so I doubt they would work.

By some of my other threads, you may have guessed that I'm going a different route on my wheel choice.  I'll be going with some "daisy" wheels, instead of the widened Polycast.  I had found a staggered set of vintage Western brand wheels, exactly what I wanted.  So, I went to test fit them last night, and THEY DON'T FRICKIN FIT!!  Angry   They were advertised to be unilug for 5x4.5 - 5x4.75.  The holes are for a larger lug pattern than 4.5.  The seller responded immediately, so it sounds like he's going to make it right.  But, I am so damn bummed.  I'm just glad that I didn't invest anything in them, or mount my tires, yet.  I was about to drop them off at the tire shop, and pull the trigger on lug nuts yesterday. Thanks for letting me vent.  Smile

Most likely 5 X 5 and 5 X 5.5 pattern. Sorry to hear that as you looked for quite a while. I'm sure the right set will show up soon. It annoys the crap out of me when someone sells something they took enough time to brand it correctly, but either pass it off as "will fit any 5 lug pattern" or are just too lazy to make sure.
