I forgot I took pictures for a reference between a standard Torino "Ford" steering box and the Saginaw unit.
This particular Saginaw box is one I got from from PSquare75. I was going to install in my car but elected to go with a Lares 841 Ford police box.

Side by side comparison:

Boss mustang - 1971 - SPAT code indicates this is a quick ratio box. If Paul chimes in, he can better explain the SPAT box.

I'm not using this box and plan on selling it, but I wanted to post up the differences for reference.

SPA-T box was a variable ratio Saginaw, about 3 turns lock to lock.  Stock Ford box is 4 turns.   This is a vast improvement over the stock Ford box.  You can also have a Saginaw box rebuilt to be even quicker than this.  My car has a 12.7:1 ratio Saginaw, which is less than 3 turns lock to lock.

What does each one weigh? Looks like the one on the right in most the pictures has less meat on it.

I didn't weigh them, but the Saginaw box is smaller and lighter than my original Ford box.

The Saginaw box does weigh less compared to the ford as it lacks all the extra meat around the housing.
I got rid of my stash of old boxes and dropped them off at a local rebuilder as they could possibly reuse parts not being made anymore.
