on a '74, 295/50r15 will fit on a 15x10 rim, but you need to make sure of the back spacing.
If the 15x10 wheel has only a 3.5" back space it's going to stick out too far and hit the wheel well lip on the quarter panel.
You could pump up the air shocks and jack the back up, but not much of a fan of 70's look like that...LOL...
15x7, on the front, should be just fine with a 225/235/245 series tire.

I looked through this thread and didnt see anyone try a 15x12 in the back yet.  I will measure for backspacing.  I really dig the 70's look with the air shocks... that's how I'm riding now, BUT I'd much rather have the correct backspacing and squeeze as much rubber under the fenders as possible without mods/tubs/etc.

If anyone has gone down that road already I'd sure appreciate any advice.  The biggest non drag tire I've found so far to fit is a 275/60/15.

Again, I like the 70's persona of fat tires in the back and smaller up front.  If you havent seen it, check out the Rustoleum 69 Satellite project.  They got the rake I'm thinking of.

Thanks for all the info it this thread guys!

I appreciate the quick answer. Looks like I will be ordering some 15x10's then with 4.5 BS.

Is the current verdict for the widest no rub big tire still the 275/60/15?
The 295/50/15 seems to have a lower profile look. I will scope out pics again before ordering.

295 - 275 = 20mm difference.

I wouldn't run anything smaller than a 295 on a 15x10.

Conversely

I run 275s on a 17x9.. I can't imagine a 295 on there...

I ran 295/50/15 on my Dodge Dakota for years with the stock 15x8 rims. NO PROBLEM and looked great!

275/60/15 on a 15x10 rim MIGHT look a little weird.
10" rims are for 295 or 305/315.

Both will fit in the wheel well

Depends on the sidewall 'bubble' you want. I felt 255 was REALLY pushing it on 7" wide rims.

Do you have a pic of those?  I'd like to see from the side and back if you have a minute to do that.

Running Mopar police 15x8 steelies on a Montego, 295/50r15 BFG's fit fine.
8" makes the sidewall bulge a tick, but the look is plain bitchin'.

I've posted these before:
295/50R15 on a true 15x10 {full 11 inch wide Aero wheel}

Front:

My set of 15x9.5 inch {10.5 full width} Aero Nascar steelies:

I will tell you from past experience, you can run 295's on all 4 corners with my Mom's old Elite.
Biggest single issue I ever had, with 295's on the front of my Elite, or for that matter my 1984 F150, was ruts in the road would pull and yank the vehicle at times.
For fun:

I really appreciate those pics!  I like that pic towards the top, rear view of the 295 filling up the wheel well nicely.  What is the backspace of that 15x10 rim?  4.5?

The chrome 15x10, are a 5" back space. Centers the rim over the hub.
The black Nascar wheels are off the top of my head a 5" back space, but not 100%. What ever the Nascar spec, type 59 Aero wheel is. Having issues trying to pull up the site.
Bassett and Crager make DOT legal wheels, the Aero wheels are not DOT legal for street use.

I know its not a 72-76 but I figured the rear end/frame spacing is probably close.

Here is my 79 LTD II with 15x10 4.5b/s with a 325/50/15 drag radial. My fenders are rolled so it doesn't rub, and doesn't stick out. I have between 1/2" and 3/4" spacing on the inside till it would touch the frame.

The LTD II is looking tough. Can you post another shot from the rear at a very low angle? I think this is the stance I will go for. What size are you running on the front?

The fronts are 15x4 with 165/80/15 radials. I plan on getting a 1" spacer for the front wheels as they do stick in quite a bit. As well as lowering the rear another 3/4" or so.

Here is a shot from straight on in the back. Not the best, but I will try to get another in the next week or so when I drag the car out.

Interesting about the MOPAR Police wheels and a 295 tire. I'll bet that looked mean.

Mopar steelies work fine 15x8, 4" back space, with a 295/50r15 tire. Seen a 1972 Montego GT set up this way, all four corners.

I have some of those Police Ralleys. I may mount a couple of 275/60's (closest I have) on them this weekend to see how they look. My wagon has a very unflattering rear wheelwell opening and I am trying to get a good combo going. With the woodgrain trim, it is even worse.

275/60-17 will fit nicely without rubbing on the rear - and they are almost 12 inches wide on a 9.5 inch rim. That is a FAT tire that comes standard on Police Issue Tahoes, Yukons. Goodyear Eagle II speed rated tires, at that. Still experimenting with them and starting on the 17's for the front. Right now, it has 235/55-17 and they look small up front.

The 275/60/r17 is also listed under the last gen lightning as a I recall...but I could not find a matching front in the size I wanted.

This is the 275/60-17 mounted on a 9.5 inch wide rim (marketed size). Like I said, no rubbing, no problems. Absolutely would look better on a 2 door than this wagon, but it will work. I would imagine that a 245/60-17 would work on the front with the right offset if you want extreme filling of the wheelwells. These are 235/55-17 and they look small.

And these are the 275/40-17's on the rear that I pulled off.

Wow thanks for the pics....These torino fender wells are BIG!

I like the 50/60 series look best...I wouldn't have been happy with a 40series tire.   This was a real help to judge the tire size that I want for my project.

I'll post pics of any combo I try for informational purposes.

The '73 will get the Mustang Bullits I had on the wagon for a short while. Since they are 17's also, what I learn about the wagon will apply to them as well. Will have to use spacers to get my proper offset.
