I call it the shark, its big, silver and has some gills.  california car 72 montego GT, winter project.  as usual the car has been sitting for umpteen years. I figure out why its been parked so long after i clean fuel system out, its got a stuck valve in the #5 cylinder.       well i pulled the head off, fixed that, put it back together ( short story) and now it runs on all 8.  now on to the rest..... needs brakes, some suspension work,  most of the interior, and if i have any money and ambition left, some paint.
the concept car is pretty close to the real thing. some sidemarker light changes, and some other trim.
here is how i found it and brought it home.  the car is super solid, only a fifty cent piece size rust hole behind the rear tire.

I like it a lotThumbs Up, Wonder if the orig. Shark survived or got destroyed. There's a gentleman here in the Chi. area that collects GM concept cars(Mark Bortz). Talk about scarce parts. Hope you post you're progress.

That is an incredibly nice original car. Noticed the Mopar Police wheel in one picture and what looks like the original Polyglas spare with a Magnum in another. Original spare tire?

I bought the car from a flipper kind of guy. He got it from an estate sale in Michigan, of course no title. So I don't know much history except it's really solid and it's originally from California.   The guy wanted his mopar wheel back, the magnum is one I had, the car came with three original magnums.

Michigan is one of the easier states to get a title I hear. They really don't care what other state it was titled in.   Just fill out a form, give them a bill of sale, they do a Michigan title and theft search, two to three weeks later you get one

the squirrel car went to a forum member in canada. i got it running well and did a couple shows with it.  I am still in the middle of restoring my 70 torino cobra SCJ car, and that is taking waaay too much money. so the squirrel car helped fund that.  I like this mercury too, but i will sell it in the spring or summer, after i get it road worthy and fix a few more things. i expect the torino cobra back from the body shop by then.  you cant keep them all!

Looks like a very complete and solid car. I love the '72 Montego GT, very unique hood style, and you never see them on the road anymore. When I had my '72 GTS back in the day a buddy had a '72 Montego GT, and another friend had a '73 Montego GT. Keep us posted as you go!
