I'm sure this has been brought up elsewhere on the forum, but what rocket surgeon designed the distributor hold-down on the 351M???  If there is a factory tool to loosen said bolt, it must have about 37 bends in it to allow you to actually LOOSEN it to set the timing.  Admittedly, I used a crap-tacular wrench I got at Advance, but dear god, did Ford HAVE to design the distributor in such a difficult-to-service fashion??

There are several companies that make the correct wrench for your application. They usually sell them in a two wrench set. One wrench is for a half inch bolt, that is probably the size of the bolt on your distributor hold down. You should measure the size of the bolt before you purchase the tool. The other wrench is for 9/16" bolts. It is probably too large for your distributor hold down bolt.

Both of these wrenches have special bends in them so you loosen and tighten your distributor hold down bolt. The 9/16" wrench appears to have a second bend in it compared to the one bend of the 1/2" wrench, which only has one bend in it.

The wrench set comes with one 3/8" adapter socket, so you can attach it to a 3/8" socket wrench. You can click the links below to see some of the tool sets for sale.

Yeah, the one I got from Advance is identical to those....there's just such a limited amount of room to get a swing on it, made it a real PITA to do....

AND, why in the world did they etch the scale onto the balancer rather than putting the marks on the pointer mounted to the front cover??  After 40 years, that scale is IMPOSSIBLE to see, I had to get under the car, bump the starter until I could see (barely) the scale & mark the balancer in order to get it done....ok, enough ranting for now......
