Thanks to all who posted earlier on this subject.
I rebuilt the blower box in my 1972 GTS with AC. I used Everco 35535 fan and Everco 35572 blower motor from Autozone. The mounting nut on the fan is inside the cage rendering the relief in the blower box useless and requiring the motor/fan assembly to be shimmed away from the blower box. I used four washers per bolt and was able to use the original four bolts. Coated the washers with sealant to keep them quiet. Added 5/16" thick weather striping between the motor mount and the case thinking it my help the fans venturi effect. ![]() Soldered the original wires to the new motor and covered with heat shrink tubing. ![]() With the four washers as shims, the fan clears the case by about 1/4" which is close to original spacing. ![]() The metal parts of the case were sand blasted and treated with metal prep and POR15. The case was cleaned with simple green and rinsed with hot water. Small cracks in the box were repaired with JB Weld. The rebuilt box pushes a ton of air now!!!! ![]() Edited by fordismyboss - 23-December-2015 at 5:12AM |
