Okay, so I am new to this forum but you guys seem to have lots of very good info. I have a 1973 ranchero gt that when I bought it, was basically 100% original. I wanted to keep it that way but then the small block 400 that was in it stopped making proper oil pressure. The engine was simply very worn out and needed a full rebuild. At the time, I didn't want to spend that much on the car so I found a replacement engine on Craigslist. It happened to be a 1991 460 efi with a full wiring harness and everything for $75. Could not pass it up. It runs so well and it is very fast. Could not have asked for that swap to go any better. When I bought that engine though, I really actually wanted to do a Triton V10. I couldn't find a cheap one until late last year. I now have a complete V10 with wiring harness and everything. If I'm going to do the swap, it has to be manual. I'm looking for some opinions on manuals for modular engines (hopefully something I can get at a junkyard) and maybe a front suspension. Has anyone put a crown Vic front end in one of these chassis? Thanks for any opinions, they are appreciated seeing as I am 20 years old and just getting into fabrication.

Welcome to the forum! 

There are a few modular Ford engine projects going on in the Torino world. If you do some google searching and searching here, you'll come across some. 

There is a guy who put a 4.6 SOHC in one, using the front frame clip from a crown vic.

There is another guy who is grafting his Torino upper body, to a Crown Vic lower body and chassis. 

I personally, am doing a Coyote 5.0, and using all the stock frame. 

There is also Project Breathless, which is a completed car that has a 4.6 DOHC Terminator motor in it. 

The V10 would be a neat project. I did a V10 in a Grand Marquis for a customer years ago. It's not the best engine for performance, but it does look pretty cool when you pop the hood. It's literally a 5.4 with two extra cylinders.

Welcome to the site!  Sal pretty much covered the mods people have done here.  I don't know of anyone using the V10 on a Torino.  It'd be a neat swap, but I agree with Sal it's not the best engine for performance.  It sure would be a show stopper though.

from what I've seen from project threads the frames very close width-wise like within 1"
 
i liked the idea of using the CV firewall, dash & floors to do a resto-mod thing
 
personally i'd use the complete CV chassis and shorten the bed before the rear tire to adjust W/B

would need a cut for custom fit, the whole thing kinda centers on the front spindle to firewall dimension

I don't exactly want to do a full on frame swap or cut up the body of my ranchero because it's fairly decent and I don't have the time, money, equipment or skills to do that properly. I am either going to build some motor mounts for the V10 to go in the current crossmember and make a rack and pinion system for it or do the crown Vic front crossmember and suspension and then the V10 should just bolt up. Does anyone know what manual trans would handle the V10? I'd really like to get something from a junkyard if I can

your V-10 makes 462 tq, T5, T56, TR3550, TR3650 don't stand a chance long term
TKO500 handles the TQ, the TKO600 & TR6060 (T56 Magnum) are overkill but if you come across one for the right $ ...
 
do you know an insurance underwriter?

Keep posting on this. I have a 71 Mercury Monterey Wagon, and I have been toying with the idea of replacing the 429 with a V10.

Its definitely a cool idea. Where did you find your V10 and wiring harness?
