Hi all...

Considering going with the Lares quick ratio box for my 77. I need feedback from someone who put this box in their car! My 77 is basically stock and the steering box is beat. Exactly what changes will I feel with the Lares box? Could really use some help here. Don't wanna put it in and hate it...

Mlachance did it in his 77.. #841 is the Ford-bolt-in-box I believe. The steering will be 'heavier' and it will take a half turn less to go all the way left>all the way right.

If you like steering by a fingertip, you'll lose that, as it will feel more like a 'new' car.

Thank you! That is EXACTLY what I wanted to know. I WANT to keep the "70s feel". Recommendations on a stock box? I saw a review on the AdvanceAuto wedsite where somebody trashed the Cardone rebuilt ones.

No idea.. The Ford boxes, by design, suck, compared to the GM/Saginaw boxes. They all leak eventually due to design (I think it's a lack of bearings or something, I saw it mentioned on FTE).

FWIW, I have an Advance box in my F100, Ford design, and it's fine.

Hey, just saw this now. Installed the Lares 841 (quick ratio) box on my 77. This was to replace the sloppy leaky 4 turn box previously on the car. I love it. Made a huge difference. Steering is much tighter, but far from being a rally car. Due to it being a special order, I got it online from Advance Auto Parts. 20% online coupon, and free shipping on anything over $100. Cost me roughly $80 (excluding the $55 core charge. Core can be returned to any AAP store)

Better deals now. Just search for AAP coupons, there's 20% ones out there.

Thanks for the info! I'm definitely going to go with the Lares box. I ordered shocks from Advance and got 20% off AND a $25 coupon for a future purchase. Can't beat that deal! Will let you all know how it turns out. (Might be a while yet; the shocks have arrived but the coupon is still in the mail.)

Good luck man. Hopefully you don't have to lift the motor up a few inches to slide the new box in. That was unexpected.

Still, no complaints about the Lares box. Only thing I have to fix since putting in, is a leak on one of the fittings. Just needs to be tightened up. For the cost of the box, it's a steal!
