1976 gran torino, trying to see if engine is original to the car. Also having trouble getting temp gauge to work

If memory serves, they're on the driver's side of the block, back by the rear of it.  As for the temp gauge, try grounding the sender wire to the block.  If it jumps up, it's a bad sender.  Otherwise, it's probably in the gauge, the printed circuit on the back of the gauge, or somewhere in the wiring.  I'd check the gauges after the ground test, then the wiring.  Hope this helps! Thumbs Up

block cast codes can be deceptive as some codes run for multiple production years, the casting date will be more helpful. it's usually right below the block cast code near the starter. you'll see something like D4AE-BA that's the block code then below it the casting date code will look something like 6G26, then we can decode it

Would it be a matter of comparing the casting date to mfg date of the car? Thanks for info will hunt around for #'s

numbers matching guys usually consider cast dates within 1 - 1 1/2 months before the vehicle assy date to be correct
