I ask the interior guy today how much to recover the bucket seat & he tells me $300 per seat, for that price Imight as well just buy the PROCAR seats from JEGS.Only dilema is what to do about the rear seat. The spring style seats really aren't that great & I believe the rear seat covers are around $300,but it sure would be nice to find a modern foam seat that will fit.I guess I need to take measurements in hit the local junk yard and see what I can find but i'm gonna check on GM & Dodge stuff too cause it don't matter what brand as long as the fit in the back of the car.

Well, I went to a shop where I know the guys, as they are set up in the back of a bodyshop I worked at for a while and run a interior/convertable top business.
Reusing the original torino frame is the best thing to do here.
Add high denisity foam, between the spring and backside of the cover.
I discussed his thoughts about trying to modify the CV seat, and he said there would be a ton of time cut down, and modify it just to fit the space.
What I am going to do is recover the back upper, and add some filler panels to the CV lower.
After looking at my fox body buckets, they are staying in the car.
I found I can get late model mustang buckets {like 2005-2007} manual clotch units for $125.
I may go poke around for another set of buckets, but at this point, I am going to use what I have and just clean things up.
What I may end up doing evenutally is just get new foam and seat covers, the front seats are really not that hard to break down once I figured out how the head rests were locked into the seat.
My current XR7 seats have power lumbar which I am going to hook up, and they have the manual side bolsters so I am just going to stick it out for now.
If I feel like getting creative, I could rework them with the mark 7 seats I have, and ditch the power tilt function on the seat back, but then I run into the headache of doing seat covers which on a mark7 ain't cheap.
I have a few ideas after talking with the guys, so I think I will have something worked out.
I need to pull the interior anyways so I can get it ready to go to the bodyshop.

Haha, that's the way it rolls some times.
Anyways, had some luck on the GTS back seat. To avoid a huge repost: http://www.fordmuscle.com/forums/makin-progress/472003-1972-gran-torino-sport-17-year-barn-nap-find-6.html I had some fun tonight. but I made the upper work..in a round about way... |
