 Topic: 1968 Torino Safety Neutral switch

Hey yall I need some help. If anyone knows their way rounf a 68 torino I cant get her started. Pretty sure it's the sns but not 100%. Was able to hot jumper n ran her back home. But I dont have a 2nd person to assist with gettin her started. If you have any info I'd be grateful.

Does it make a difference if you move the gear shifter around while you have the key in the start position? In my dad's 1969 Fairlane, you have to pull up on the column shifter with one hand while holding the key in start with the other. It's been like that for decades now, it's almost second nature now that we know what to do, and it's actually kind of a nifty anti-theft mechanism.

Is the ignition switch on the dash? One of my vehicles had the NSS go bad and I just put a remote button under the dash and wired it to the solenoid. It was actually pretty convenient and I never changed it.

Is it auto or manual? If auto, column or floor shifter? Fords of the 70's (late 60's too?) were notorious for sloppy auto column shifters/switches over time and they sometimes popped into reverse 'on their own', they even sent out warning stickers to place on dash. Growing up, we had a 73 wagon that you had to hold up on the column shifter if get it to start. plenty of info if you google it
Hands...68/69 were still on dash.

If you want to bypass it, trace the wiring from the switch to where it plugs into the car's electrical system. There should be four wires there the two that you want are the red ones with a blue stripe. unplug the switch and run a jumper from one of the red/blue wires to the other. The two on the car side of the connection, not the switch side. By unplugging that, your car will be able to start while the car is in gear, and, you don't have any backup lights, so this is definitely absolutely NOT a permanent fix, but, at least you can start the car until you get it fixed.
