I have a 1971 torino gt that wen i turn on will stay runnin but wen i turn the headlights on will shut off even wen i step on the brakes to put it in gear or if i put it in reverse but if i put it in drive itll stay runnin i had the alternator check and it was good n bought a new voltage regulator......anyone have an idea

What is the voltage at the battery at idle? It should at least 13.5 in neutral. If you don't have a voltmeter, Advance Auto will check it for free.

By the way, we go to the Fl Strabery Festival Festival every March. You live about 40 miles from me.

Thanks ill check it out this sat some people at work told me it might be the vacuum lines or canaster n yes the strawberry festival is like 5 mins from my house

It could be vaccuum especially if you have hideaway lights that require vaccuum to operate.
Again though, could be electrical and the additional draw of the brake lights, headlights, etc... robbing the ignition system.
Electrical is an easy no cost check.
