Hi Friends!
Any secret sources for defroster vents (plenum?) for a 1972 Gran Torino Sport with Air Conditioning? You all know the deal. Just the part that sits in the sun for 24 hours a day (oh, wait . . . ) get's toasted and disintegrates. There's no separate vent, right? It's just the whole plenum assembly? Thanks for your support~! Pete

Evening Pete-
The upper defroster ductwork depends on the AC vs non-AC. I'm fuzzy on heat-only cars, but it is a single piece that sits on top of the main box section. Now, for AC cars, there are left (Driver) and right (Passenger) side ducts. I had some issues when I was searching the manuals. Hope this helps. On these, pretty much any of the 72-76 Torino, Montego, Ranchero, Elite & Mercury Cougar 74-76 will work. 77-79 Mercury Cougar, Ford Thunderbird, Ford LTD 2, and Ranchero I believe changed the HVAC system, but I can't confirm 100%. Decided to look at my '77 service manual set and the heat only upper defrost looks different. On the AC dash, looks like they made the 77-79 AC cars also have a 1 piece upper design. Sometimes you can use 77-79 dash /electrical but not in this case. ![]() ![]() |

Pete-
I picked up a parts group recently and found in the mix, EDIT - looks like Driver's side defroster ductwork for an AC car. it's a '73 part number, D3, but should work. Let me know if interested. $25 plus the shipping. ![]() |
